My favorite little side project right now is helping my young and talented friend Cammi with a novel she is writing. For the last couple of years we have been talking about books we love, and story line ideas. She was originally one of the “kids” helping me when I started developing my own storybook three years ago. She’s grown into a beautiful, thoughtful, and wildly intelligent young lady (gawd, I sound like my mother). Cammi has just completed her first novel at the tender age of thirteen, and it’s very good.
She recently turned me on to a software program that I downloaded and am loving called Scrivener and I thought I’d make a little noise about it for any of you who have a dream of one day writing your own biography, novel, or magnum opus. Its brilliant! It’s free for 30 days ( so you can try it) and then if you like it, it’s $45.00 for the license and they even give you a price discount if you are a student. (P.S. They are working to develop this for Windows operating system so currently this is only available for Mac)
The project templates can be used as a guide for the following:
- Non Fiction
- Poetry and Lyrics
- Essays, song lyrics, screen plays, and recipe’s
As I delve ever deeper into the world of technology I learn that there is so much available to help assist us in our personal and professional endeavors. That great expression “there’s an app for that” is not so far from the truth. There really ARE applications out there that can be used to help streamline our work flow, allow us to be more efficient with our time, and that can even encourage and inspire us in our creativity.
I’d love feedback on those of you who have a specific need to FIND something online that would help you with your specific profession or hobby. I’d love the challenge of helping you find a program you could download to make life easier, just use the comment box below and I will start my search!
(Above is a cool screen shot of the program and how it leads you step by step through a tutorial on how to write what ever you are trying to accomplish)
